In 2004, when my husband and I needed to close on our first house and our mortgage broker abandoned us 9 days before closing, I thought that all our hopes and dreams for the past year were going to be crushed.

We had a complicated personal situation with a combo loan involving two lenders, and the local mortgage brokers that I called were wary of the risks. They wanted us to change our loan terms significantly and pay a lot more for it. I just didn't know what to do. I posted my tale of woe on the Motley Fool newsgroups, hoping for someone to recommend *something*! To my surprise, Dave Donhoff, who had given me lots of help and advice on the newsgroup, offered his services.

We quickly signed with him. Even though he was far away and I'd never met him in person, if anyone could possibly pull off this Mission Impossible, it would be him. I just had to trust him and hope for the best. I must say that it was possibly the most stressful 11 days of my life. Lots of phone calls, faxes, and emails flying at all hours of the day and night.

Through it all, Dave and his team were professional, friendly, and helpful. We ended up closing two days later than originally expected, but Dave and his wonderful team did manage to pull off the impossible! In the end, it really all worked out for the best. Dave got us rates that were significantly lower than our original MB's, and I really learned a lot from this whole experience. The entire loan workflow involves so many pieces of paper, so many individuals, and so many bureaucratic processes that I'm amazed it ever succeeds. But somehow, Dave and his team know how to navigate all this craziness, and we have been happy home owners now for three years and counting!!

I think that if Dave could succeed with Mission Impossible for us, he can probably do wonders for anyone!
